Full marks to the Oaklands for putting on a first class New Years Eve Gala Dinner. They literally threw the kitchen sink at it and the whole evening was a delight. A glass of bubbly to start canapés, 5 course meal, party poppers, more …

Stayed for a couple of nights whilst visiting the family who live in the area. We have stayed before but not since the refurbishment of the main areas.which have beautifully done. Staff were great, food was very nice we ate in here for breakfast, lunch and an evening meal.

Booked Christmas dinner for four adults. Service spot on, plenty of attentive staff, crisp white linen, tables well spaced. Lovely calm, relaxed dining experience. The food was well cooked, tasty and very generous potions, clearly fresh …

Second time I have stayed here on business. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean and the central heating was really good. Food was excellent both evening meals and breakfast. Very generous portions. This will definitely be my go to place when working in the area.

Very comfortable overnight stay in lovely surroundings. The staff were some of the most helpful and polite I have come across. Good food with plenty of choice and an excellent breakfast. Will definitely be coming back here when I’m working in the area again.

Well looked after - clean and quiet room. Great food and brilliant breakfast. Service was great as well. Held a retirement meal/do there - was given a side room with silver service. The attitude of the staff and management ensured we had a memorable evening for all the right reasons

Nice little hotel. The family room was a good size but was very hot! There was an a/c unit, but despite having it set to the lowest temperature it barely blew any cold air out. It wasn’t particularly hot outside (22 deg C) but the room was …

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel looks like it was once a wonderful old grand house. Unfortunately it has had a modern addition in the form of an extensive extension to the side and rear which hasn’t really been done very sympathetically and rather spoils the old house’s architecture. On arrival we ordered sandwiches from the restaurant. They were really nice and the portions were good too. We ordered another bowl of chips and onion rings thinking that the portions would be small but we were shocked at how large they were there’s no way two people could eat one portion and they were delicious. This was exceptional value for money. The room was rather small and basic but very clean. The reception rooms and dining areas and communal areas are all beautiful, clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast on day one was exceptional but day two was appalling. Day one was individual service with lots of choice from the menu whereas day two was only a hot buffet. Eggs were hard, bacon was cold and the mushrooms were slimy. We couldn’t eat it. At £15 a head it was quite shocking. This was real shame and quite disappointing when the day before it was really nice. It was a pleasant enough stay, we paid £194 for 2 night’s including breakfast. The staff were very helpful and nice and overall a positive experience.

It wasn't the dust behind the side tables that put us off (and it was dusty) , it was the nasty unclean toilet brushes (sorry) in both joint rooms. Multiple scratches in the baths in each room. Beds were clean though! Yes, an excellent, picturesque location that was let down by some (but not all) unprofessional staff. No place is perfect. Our opinion, is the staff overall are not well trained and/or managed well. Was it value for money? Not at all, it simply wasn't clean. Would I go to Best Western again.. No, bottom of the list with Travelodge.
